Kalinga swimming team hauls 8 silver, 18 bronze in 2023 CARAA meet

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Kalinga swimming team collected 26 medals for the province during the recently concluded 2023 Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association(CARAA) meet in Baguio City on April 29 – May 1.


Kalinga delegation brought home a total of 58 medals wherein 5 are gold, 17 are silver, and 36 are bronze, according to the official and final medal tally released by the Department of Education – Cordillera.

Of the figure, the swimming team contributed the largest medal haul for Kalinga with 8 silver medals and 18 bronze. The majority of these medals were taken home by the elementary division who are all first-timers in the competition.


According to Aldrin Dugnayon Bitanga, Coach of the elementary–boys swimming team, they only had seven days to train for the CARAA meet. Within these days, he added, the Provincial Local Government Unit of Kalinga led by Governor James Edduba and the Schools Division Office – Kalinga had been very supportive to the athletes.


“After the provincial meet ma'am, training mi lang iti 7 days nga covered iman iti PLGU nga very supportive kadakami ken iti SDO Kalinga, nangruna iti medical team,” he told GURU Press Cordillera.


Eleven of the elementary swimmers are from Pinukpuk, 8 are from Balbalan, and one is from Tanudan. The secondary team, on the other hand, was composed of 5 athletes from Pinukpuk, 3 from Rizal, and 12 from Balbalan.
