Tabuk City, Kalinga – Exemplary women who stood beside the leaders in the province and women with great contributions in the development of Kalinga and in the economy will be recognized through photo exhibits and tarp mural this women’s month.

This March, the country is celebrating Women’s Month with the theme “Juana Laban sa Pandemya, Kaya!”

During the We Men 2021’ meeting this Monday, March 22, Ana Lua Tubban, wife of the governor and lead convenor of said event mentioned that this year’s celebration will pay tribute to women with significant accomplishments and contributions in Kalinga.

These photo exhibits and tarp mural will be dubbed ‘We Men Beside Our Men’, ‘The Perfect Past and Present Kalinga Women in Development’, and ‘Ang Kwento sa Kwenta’.

We Men Beside Our Men

Natividad Sugguiyao from the Office of Provincial IPMR explained that the ‘We Men Beside Our Men’ is a photo exhibit for the wives and partners of the Kalinga leaders. This, she said, will allow people to get to know these women who stood beside their men.

“This is an opportunity to give tribute to the women. We do not say behind the success of a man is a woman. Instead, we say, beside the man is the woman. What we meant with women beside their men is we do not walk in front of you, we do not walk behind you, but we walk beside you, (translated from the original language)” she said.

To present this their accomplishments and profession will be highlighted, Sugguiyao said.

To make this more meaningful, the public are encouraged to submit a photo and a short bio of a woman they know made great and significant contributions for the province or in the name of Kalinga. Additionally, entries will be screened and the mechanics is yet to be finalized.

Ang Kwento sa Kwenta

Ang Kwento sa Kwenta will feature women in the market to highlight their role in the economy of Kalinga. Selected vendors from the vegetable, meat, and dry goods will be featured.

Meanwhile, former Kalinga Governor Floydelia Diasen said that there are a lot of women leaders who are not known, she said that there are those who are staying at home and those who do not go to offices to work who are doing something for the community.

“... alam na natin ‘yung mga office heads, ‘yung mga politicians’ wives etcetera. But, marami pa tayong hindi kilala na mga market vendors, ‘yung mga ordinary women, ‘yung mga house wives,” she said.

Meanwhile, the date of celebration of women’s month this year is yet to be finalized since the original date of celebration which was supposedly this March 30 was cancelled due to protocol restrictions.
