Kalinga to utilize P5M aid for provision of farm inputs, repair of damaged waterworks system

Tabuk City, Kalinga – The local government of Kalinga will prioritize the provision of farm inputs to typhoon-devastated farmers and the repair of damaged waterworks systems and road clearing operations, utilizing the P5 million aid given recently by President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr.

The decision was made during a meeting by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) held on Tuesday, August 1.

With said plan, Governor James Edduba requested from concerned agencies and local government units to expedite the consolidation of needed data, particularly the list of severely affected farmers and the list of areas where the damaged water works are located.

This is to ensure that needed assistance will be delivered the soonest possible time.

The expedited distribution is also seen to lessen the difficulties faced by those impacted by the disaster and guarantee that communities will recover and rebuild through aid.

As initially reported by the Provincial Agricultural Office, damages to rice amount to P27,053,262; corn - P32, 531, 376; and high-value crops - P4,475,940 affecting 6 municipalities in the province.

No information as of yet has been reported as to where the damaged waterworks systems are located.

To recall, on July 29, Governor Edduba received financial assistance amounting to P5 million from President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr., during the latter’s visit in Cagayan.

During said visit, Edduba presented the initial damages incurred by the province from Egay’s onslaught - P322,745,564 worth of infrastructural damage and over P64 million in agricultural damage.

With regard to homes destroyed, 3 houses in Lubuagan were completely dismantled, while 104 homes in Rizal, Pinukpuk, Balbalan, Tabuk City, Pasil, Tanudan, and Tinglayan suffered partial damage.

Meantime, Tanudan and Tinglayan reported having two partially demolished schools.

For families affected, the province listed 801 families or 3,939 individuals.
