Cagayan, Philippines – The low-pressure area monitored in Cagayan may develop into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration reported this Thursday.

PAGASA weather specialist Grace Castañeda, in her weather report on Thursday morning, June 12, said there is an LPA located 235 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan as of 3:00 a.m. She described the phenomenon to be moving north or northwest, and it has a high chance of developing into a tropical cyclone.

“Mataas po yung tiyansa nito na maging bagyo within the next 24 hours at ito po ay kumikilos pataas o kumikilos ito pahilaga, hilagang kanluran at nakikita rin po natin na nagiging mabilis yung pagkilos nito,” she said.

Castañeda added that once it turned into a tropical cyclone near Taiwan, it would likely be dissolved within 48 hours.

Nevertheless, the PAGASA said that the LPA monitored in the Philippine Area of Responsibility will bring rain in extreme Northern Luzon.

“Either as LPA or as a bagyo, ngayong araw ay ine-expect po natin is magdudulot na ito ng pag-ulan dito sa bahagi ng extreme Northern Luzon,” she said.

Meantime, most parts of the country, particularly in the western section of Luzon, experience rainy weather due to the ‘Habagat’.
