Cagayan, Philippines – A suspected carnapper, who is facing several charges, died after jumping off the Buntun Bridge, in an attempt to escape the police afternoon of August 2.

According to Solana Police Chief, Police Captain Samuel Lopez, during an interview with the Cagayan Provincial Information Office, the 27-year-old suspect, identified as Jomar Lagoc, a resident of Barangay Piggatan, Alcala, was arrested for allegedly stealing a motorcycle on August 1.

The police chief also revealed that apart from the stolen motorcycle, the police discovered in his possession a firearm, knife, and suspected dried marijuana.

With this, Lagoc was brought to the prosecutor’s office for his inquest proceedings on August 2. However, while on their way back to the police station after his and other co-accused, Lagoc was able to uncuff his hands discreetly.

Lopez said that Lagoc saw the chance to escape the police escorts when their vehicle was stuck in traffic.

Thinking that the water level at Buntun bridge is high, the suspect ran towards the bridge and jumped off. Unfortunately, he fell into the rocky portion of the Cagayan River.

The 27-year-old suspect was rushed to the Cagayan Valley Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
