Besao, Mt. Province – Marriage can wait, although love sometimes can’t.

After 28 years of being in love, an elderly couple in Besao, Mt. Province, who have been sharing life’s ups and downs under one roof finally tied the knot on July 1, 2025.

The newly married couple, 70-year-old Gabriel Oticao Kawi and 84-year-old Lolita Alogen Lacpap, exchanged vows before Besao Mayor Bryne O. Bacwaden.

The couple’s wedding ceremony was conducted at their residence in Dandanac, Tamboan, and attended by their families, friends, town officials, and people who know them.

According to Besao LGU, who shared their story online, Gabriel and Lolita had already “lived the vows before they spoke them.”

For nearly three decades, they had been sharing meals, raising children, and supporting one another in any situation in their lives, without the paper to prove what true love means.  Then the day came when they sealed it with ink.

Netizens online were quick to send their warmest congratulations to Gabriel and Lolita.  “Love knows no bounds. Great love indeed. Congratulations to both of you, po,” commented Elizabeth Acab, while Grace Sannad Baniaga added, “LOVE CONQUERS ALL. God bless you both. CONGRATULATIONS.”

Gabriel and Lolita’s marriage is now on paper.

Nevertheless, their love was sealed long ago when they decided to remain committed to each other.

Their story reminds many that real love takes time and stays through highs and lows. Marriage can wait, although love sometimes can’t.
