Tinglayan, Kalinga – Mayor Sacrament Gumilab expressed his appreciation to the provincial government for starting the Provincial Disaster Resilience Caravan in Tinglayan on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, saying that this helped raise the awareness of the people in preparing and facing calamities and emergencies.

With the Provincial Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) spearheading the activity, the caravan intends to visit the different municipalities of the province in observance of the 2021 National Disaster Resilience Month.

Through the PDRRM Council, the caravan also aims to evaluate on-site the local policies on disaster risk preparedness and observe the state of preparedness of every municipal DRRM office in the province.

In a statement, Gumilab expressed hope that the activity will continue in the coming years to capacitate MDRRM offices and ensure that they are fully equipped to attend to the needs of the constituents before, during, and after disasters.

“I hope that the province will continue the conduct of this activity and continue to give their best in assisting MDRRMO offices since these activities will motivate and enable them to become more resilient, and that would be a great help to every yKalinga as we faced difficulties in attending to the needs of our constituents during disasters,” he said.

“This is one way to prepare every municipality to better equip themselves so that if there would be disasters, they would be the one to respond for their own constituents,” he added.

In Tinglayan, the mayor shared that equipment in the municipality for disasters is ready and available, however, the provincial government recommended that they need to purchase a backhoe and loader considering that Tinglayan is prone to landslides.

Gumilab also disclosed that rescue vehicles were purchased to cater to barangays which are separately located, thus additional vehicles are needed in reaching them as the need arises.

Moreover, rescue boats were procured and several necessary rescue equipment for the LGUs rescue and response activities.
