Month-long Montañosa Film Festival to push through in March

Baguio City, Philippines – Aimed at promoting local talents and creativity, Baguio City is set to hold one of Cordillera’s major film events, the Montañosa Film Festival from March 1 to 31 this year.


The conduct of said event is supported by the local government of Baguio with the issuance of Executive Order No. 24, series of 2023 by Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, declaring the whole month of March as the Montañosa Film Festival (MFF) 2023 in the city.


The festival aims to strengthen Baguio city’s’ rebranding as a safe, smart, sustainable city and to establish it as a region flourishing in the arts, rich in cultural heritage, being a UNESCO-designated Creative City for Crafts and Folk Arts.

The Baguio Tourism Council, according to Baguio City Information Office, will serve as the event’s co-presenter and lead implementer with the integration of activities under the National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA) Cinema Rehiyon 15.


This year’s MFF activity will carry the theme, “Divergence + Convergence”.


Activities

Activities lined up for the month of March include a media launch on March 1, festival opening night on March 25, launching of online film screening on March 26, and launching of Cinema Rehiyon Best of Regions on March 27.


Furthermore, a filmmaker forum is scheduled on March 28 followed by workshops and talks by renowned speakers from the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).

The scheduled outdoor film screening is on March 29 to 31 at the Rose Garden in Burnham Park.


Various schools in the city shall likewise be visited by the Cultural Center of the Philippines outreach program and Lakbay sine in partnership with the MFF Campus Caravan.


The CCP Cinema under the stars (CUTS) shall also be held anew, alongside said activities.


On the other hand, the Cordillera School of Digital Arts was tasked to carry out the film fest’s animation section’s launching.


The MFF closing ceremonies and Awards night will be on April 1 at the Baguio convention center ground.
