Tabuk City, Kalinga― The Philippine Red Cross - Kalinga Chapter has called for more donors as local blood demand in the province increased.

The PRC-Kalinga made the call during a blood donation drive participated in by the Fraternal Order of Eagles - Kalinga Chapter held on July 17, 2021.

The two likewise forged a partnership to hold blood-letting activity regularly in a hope to boost the supply in the province. About 29 units of blood from the donation drive was collected.

Johnwin Meniano, PRC Kalinga-Blood Services Officer-in-Charge, disclosed that they observed a rise in the number of requests with over 562 individuals served as of July 18. Most of the clients are within the 15 to 44 years old age bracket.

“Weekly either 2 or 4 na units depende sa needs or severity ng kanilang chemo.

Bale gradual yung kanyang pag-increase. Ngayon, na-observe namin na yung demand ng blood request ng isang pasyente ay tumataas talaga siya lalo na ngayong mayroon tayong cases ng dialysis as young as 12 years old nag da-dialysis na,” Meniano said.

Meniano expressed that and said that the donated blood shall be used by individuals with low hemoglobin count, dialysis patients, and victims of vehicular traffic accidents needing blood.

“Almost lahat ng client namin hindi bumababa sa 2 units [of blood] yung kanilang request so pati yung mga dialysis patients continuous pa rin yung kanilang schedule lalo na ngayong may sarili nang dialysis center dito sa Kalinga,” he narrated.

The blood-letting activity was attended by PRC-Kalinga Chairman Atty. Macario Duguiang and leaders and officials of the various clubs of the Eagles Organization in the province headed by Tanudan Mayor Jaedick Dagadag.

Meanwhile, PRC-Kalinga Chairman Atty. Macario Duguiang lauded the partnership of PRC Kalinga and the Eagles Club, saying it would help much in meeting required blood supply hoping inadequacy will no longer become a big problem in Kalinga.
