Mother loses 12-yr-old son in tragic drowning incident in Pinacanauan River, Cagayan

Penabalanca, Cagayan - A mother was just busy picking corn on Sunday, September 15, without expecting it was the last day she would see her 12-year-old son alive.

Her son accidentally drowned along the Pinacanauan River in Barangay Centro, Penabalanca, after the boy with his cousin went to the river.

The victim was hidden by the name "Macmac,” a sixth-grade student while the identity of the mother was not disclosed by the police.

In his interview with the media, PNP Peñablanca Police Captain Lief Bernard Guya relayed that before the drowning happened, the mother went to a farm in said barangay that day to collect harvested corn, bringing her son, Macmac, and her nephew with her.

While the mother was busy with her work, she was unaware that her son and nephew went somewhere else.

After some time, her nephew came and told her that her son fell into the river and drowned. The mother immediately sought help from authorities, who proceeded to the location and retrieved the body the same day.

The rescue team rushed Macmac to the nearest hospital from the barangay, but he later died while being treated at the hospital. The body is now at their residence for his wake.

With this incident, police once again reminded parents to always keep an eye on their kids to avoid such kind of incidents from recurring.
