Mr. and Ms. Kalinga 2024 candidates dazzle in pre-pageant competition

Tabuk City, Kalinga – In an attempt to secure the coveted Mr. and Miss Kalinga titles, 21 candidates gave their all during the preliminary segments of the province’s largest pageant, held on Friday, February 9, at the Rang-ay Eco Adventures and Resort in Babalag West, Rizal, Kalinga.

To commence the preliminary show, the candidates showcased traditional yKalinga attire, with female contestants donning ‘tapis’ and male candidates wearing ‘ba-ag’. Accessories such as the Kalinga headdress, ‘bongor’, and other jewelry were worn to enhance the cultural significance of their attire.

Following this, a question and answer segment tested the candidates' eloquence, wit, and composure under pressure, focusing on various social issues in the country.

Subsequently, the candidates displayed their talents, eliciting cheers from the live audience. Talents showcased included singing, painting, modern, ethnic, and contemporary dance, acting, and spoken word poetry.

It was clarified by the Mr. and Ms. Kalinga pageant committee that the talent contest would not factor into the overall pageant results but would serve as one of the special segments.

While the results of the pre-pageant show were announced after the event, the awarding will be made during the coronation night scheduled for February 13.

Additionally, recipients of the “Darlings of the Press Award”—another special citation—were selected prior to the show during a media presentation held on February 1.

During the finals, candidates will be evaluated on their performance in the swimwear competition, evening wear, and question and answer portion, among other criteria.
