Tabuk City, Kalinga – When news about the arrest of a 39-year-old councilor-aspirant in Kalinga was released, some individuals hiding under ‘anonymous’ accounts took the chance to spread disinformation against Former Correctional Superintendent and councilor-aspirant Jayferson Bon-as.

On the early morning of May 2, 2025, police operatives arrested two high-value drug personalities in Kalinga after they were caught in possession of P1.5 million worth of suspected shabu along with illegal firearms in Dagupan Weste, Tabuk City.

One of these two suspects is a 39-year-old councilor-aspiant in the province who was previously arrested in a drug buy-bust operation in 2018. He was also a surrenderer in 2016.

Hours after GURU Press reported the incident, the phone of Bon-as, who was on the road back to Tabuk City blew off, leaving him puzzled.

“Idi inruwar da dayta news ket adu iti tumawag ket apay nga siyak iti tawagan da,” he recounted.

It turned out, some individuals under ‘anonymous’ names posted on ‘kalinga page’, saying the man arrested was Bon-as and taking advantage of the moment to discredit the former correctional officer who is running for councilor in Tabuk City.  There were also some who accused him of being a ‘drug lord’.

“Never nak met nga na-involve iti droga, apay gapu ta naging hepe nak idiay New Bilibid Prison ket ibato da met daytan nga maipanggep iti droga? Ket iti kinaagpaysu an na met ket dakami met iti nanglab-laban kadagita drugs. Haan aya nga idi time ni President Duterte, haan man nga totally naikkat iti droga at least nabawasan, ket narikna tayo met even here in Kalinga,” he expressed.

Bon-as recalled that when he was in service, he did his part and worked hard to counter the illegal drugs within his jurisdiction, saying, “inaramid tayo met iti trabaho tayo idi time tayo idiay New Bilibid prison, hinigpitan natin lahat kaya na-lessen. Awanen iti transaction, na-lessen ta marigatan dan.”

The former Correctional Superintendent, meantime, conveyed that the public is free to check his name on the drug lists of PNP and PDEA.

“Nu kitaen yu iti record from the PNP or PDEA, awan iti nagan ko, awan iti na-involve ak iti droga. Malinis iti nagnagan ko nu maipanggep iti droga kasi ubing tayo pay met iti serbisyo alangan nga sayangen tayo pay lang maipanggep iti dayta nga droga,” he asserted.

Lastly, Bon-as is only 33 years old, not 39.
