Tabuk City, Kalinga—Speaking before the hundreds of attendees of the Kalinga 6th Bodong Festival’s kick-off on Monday, February 3, 2025, at the Capitol Grounds, Governor James Edduba underscored the importance of unity, citing it is the very foundation of achieving progress.

“No divided community can achieve great things…It is our unity that has made this achievement possible,” said Edduba.

Edduba's remarks during said event encapsulate the core of his hopes for the province's future, where unity goes beyond simple emotion and acts as the essential foundation for the province's achievements.

The Governor said that although structures—like roads, bridges, hospitals, and the increasing number of fast food outlets—serve as evident indicators of progress in the province, it is the united spirit of the community that facilitates these advancements.

According to him, these structural developments being observed today in Kalinga was made possible through the efforts of the past leaders of the province, whose vision and commitment established the groundwork for the infrastructure that now serves the residents.

Edduba further noted that these material accomplishments would be empty without the fundamental sense of unity that has defined the province’s path, pointing out that this is based not only on common objectives but also on the people’s profound appreciation for their cultural heritage.

The Governor made it clear that as the province advances, it must do so without losing sight of its roots because cultural identity is just as crucial as infrastructure in defining a community’s success.

Further, the father of the province explained that unity was not just a reflection of the past but a call to action for the present and future leaders. Leadership may change, and administrations may come and go, but the spirit of cooperation and mutual support must remain constant.

Edduba then urged all iKalingas to engage actively in the anniversary and festival celebrations, viewing these occasions as chances to enhance the connections that unite them.

“Our traditions define who we are, no matter how much we advance. No matter how much we advance, progress must never come at the expense of our rich cultural identity…Our culture is inseparable from who we are. While differences and misunderstandings may arise. Our shared heritage teaches us that unity must prevail. Culture binds us together,” he concluded.
