Baguio City, Philippines – The Department of Education-Cordillera (DepEd-CAR) reiterated that teachers in the region who are not yet fully vaccinated are not allowed to be deployed for face-to-face classes, unless willing to pay and undergo regular swab test.

Regional Director of DepEd-CAR, Dr. Estela Cariño through the press release of Mt. Province Broadcasting Corporation – MPBC on Thursday, December 16, explained that they did not receive any order from the national department giving a green light for unvaccinated teachers to be included during the limited conduct of face-to-face classes.

Cariño said they are currently implementing the guidelines issued by the national government prohibiting not fully vaccinated teachers to avoid the spread of COVID-19.

However, teachers who refuse to be vaccinated need to present a negative result of reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) at their own expense as DepEd, she affirmed, will not shoulder the cost of their swab test.

As recalled, around 20 schools in the region are conducting limited face-to-face classes in chosen pilot areas. More schools are expected to join the setup by next year.

The report did not mention how many teachers under DepEd-CAR have not yet been vaccinated.
