Tabuk City, Kalinga – With the surge of COVID-19 cases in the province, Governor Ferdinand Tubban announced this January 18 that there will be a simple instead of grand celebration for this year’s Kalinga Founding Anniversary.

During his ‘Isangguni sa Ating Gobernador’ radio program aired earlier today, Tubban explained that the decision to suspend the traditional events was made to lessen the further spread of the infectious disease in the province.

According to the governor, the provincial government was supposed to push through with the grand civic parade and activities as decided upon by the Management Committee (ManCom) during their meeting held on the first Monday of January.

However, the Provincial Health Office recorded a sudden surge of COVID-19 cases, thus, the suspension of activities.

“We were very hopeful nga awanen daytoy a COVID-19. Nagragsak ti kapanunutan a matuloy daytoy ta 2020 ket awan, 2021, awan…ngem ni, bigla manen,” Tubban related.

27th Kalinga Foundation Day

Tubban said the 27th Kalinga Foundation Day that will be commemorated on February 14 this year will be marked by a thanksgiving mass to express gratitude to the Almighty for His guidance and to likewise give thanks to the efforts and contributions of former leaders.

The mass will be followed by a short program, and fireworks display at night.

“It may not be a grand celebration but for us, it’s a ‘grand’ for we celebrate the lives of each and every one of us. Agyaman tayo ta madanun tayo manen daytoy nga Kalinga Foundation Day,” underscored the governor.
