During the start of the election period on January 8, 2022, 21 COMELEC checkpoints were established in Kalinga with two installed in Barangays Dangoy and Poblacion.

Capt. Alexander Malasi, Lubuagan COP, mentioned that since the beginning of the election period they have not caught anyone carrying a gun during their conduct of visual search on vehicles passing through the checkpoints.

“Idi nagrugi iti COMELEC gun ban, awan iti nasal-salaw mi pay lang… iti maal-ala ket dagitoy illegal drugs from January to date ket addan duwan nga kaso mi,” Malasi said.

It could be recalled that on February 14, 2022, five people from Metro Manila and Pampanga who were onboard a public bus were nabbed for transporting P1,803,360 worth of suspected dried marijuana bricks from Kalinga.

Eleven days later, two men from Tuao, Cagayan, were arrested after the police recovered P13,560,000 worth of bricks and tubulars believed to be marijuana from the L300 vehicle they were driving.
