Non-essential travels in Baguio City possible for vaccinated individuals next week

Updated: Oct 21, 2021

Baguio City, Philipines – Mayor Benjamin Magalong in a statement disclosed the possibility for the “Summer Capital” to open non-essential travels for vaccinated individuals next week.

“Hopefully, baka next week, baka pwede na nating payagan yung [non-essential travels] pero only for fully vaccinated [individuals],” the mayor said in an interview with the media on Tuesday, October 19.

Magalong said that before pursuing the plan, there is a need to ensure and sustain that the number of COVID-19 cases in the city will continue to go down as they don’t want to experience another sudden case surge of said disease.

Also taken in considerations are health workers who are also recovering. Magalong said individuals from said sector are ‘tired and exhausted’ that they also need some time to rest.

If the plan will pursue, Magalong said that visitors should present proofs that they are already vaccinated at the city borders.

Meantime, Magalong in an update informed that situations in hospitals are now getting better, as hospital utilization rate for Baguio is now down to 75. He added that a downtrend for COVID-19 cases in the city is now being observed.

Based on latest COVID-19 update by PIO Baguio, the city has 142 new confirmed cases, 220 new recoveries and 2 deaths on October 19, 2021.

For its total cases, the city recorded 28,453 confirmed cases, in which 26,551 already recovered, and 1,305 active cases. For COVID-19 related deaths, the city has a record of 597.
