Benito Soliven – The Department of Science and Technology through its Philippine Textile Research Institute officially launched Northern Luzon’s first natural textile hub in Benito Soliven, Isabela on May 18, 2026.

The Textile Fiber Innovation Hub is a facility that transforms raw natural materials such as plant-based fibers into usable textile products like yarn and thread. Using specialized machinery and modern technology, the hub processes agricultural materials such as banana and pineapple fibers into textile-grade raw materials for fabric production.

According to the DOST-PTRI through the Isabela Provincial Information Office, the facility can process up to 40 kilos of banana fiber daily. The project aims to strengthen local industries by promoting science-based fiber processing, supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and creating additional livelihood opportunities for farming communities.

The facility is equipped with machinery provided by the DOST and is operated by the Solivenian Agricultural Business Association. It will serve as a processing center for banana and pineapple fibers sourced from local farmers, transforming agricultural waste into valuable textile raw materials.

SABA is a local agri-based organization in Benito Soliven that serves as an implementing and operating partner for agricultural and science-based livelihood projects in the municipality.

Authorities said the hub is expected to boost sustainable industry growth in Isabela by converting farm waste into high-value products, while opening more livelihood opportunities for farmers and supporting the development of MSMEs across Northern Luzon.
