Tabuk City, Kalinga − A 39-year-old driver in Tabuk was the recorded casualty during the observance of the Holy Week this year in Kalinga.

Kalinga Police Information Officer, PCapt. Ruff Manganip told GURU Press Cordillera that while Holy Week is generally peaceful, a drowning incident was monitored on Good Friday, April 7.

The fatal incident transpired at the Chico River in Barangay Bantay where the victim, Jefferson Dugayon, a resident of Pinagan, went swimming.

Unfortunately, Dugayon was later found by his companions drowned. He was rushed to Kalinga Provincial Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

According to Manganip, untoward cases were minimized this year in the province due to the cooperation of the people and the effort of the authorities in conducting an information education campaign on safety tips this Holy Week.

In the Philippines, the Philippine National Police data revealed that at least 72 people died of drowning after the Lent Season.
