Rizal, Kalinga – More than 2,000 student-athletes from various municipalities in Kalinga are striving to win medals in the ongoing 2024 Provincial Athletic Meet.

These young players, representing their respective municipalities, gathered at the Municipal Ground in Rizal on January 25 for the formal opening of the event before proceeding to their designated playing areas.

During the opening program, attendees had the opportunity to meet and listen to Senator Christopher Lawrence ‘Bong’ Go, who was invited as the guest speaker. Additionally, they enjoyed the presence of award-winning actor Philip Salvador, who graced the event.

Congressman Allen Jesse Mangaoang, meanwhile, emphasized that while not everyone will emerge victorious in the competition, all participants possess talent. “Just being here today means that you deserve to be among the best athletes in the province,” he added.

Vice Governor Jocel Baac called for continuous unity among the DepEd personnel in the province, urging them to continue working together. He added, “The youth are the hope of this fatherland, so in every failure that we face, it is the young who will be sacrificed.”

The first day of games took place in the afternoon of January 25. Athletes will compete for a spot in the CARAA meet until January 28, the culminating day of this year’s sports festival.
