Over P62M Farm-to-Market Road projects awarded to Abra farmers

La Trinidad, Benguet - The Department of Agriculture Cordillera Administrative Region (DA-CAR) turned over three completed P62 million worth Farm-to-Market Roads (FMR) projects that will benefit Abra farmers today, Dec. 24, at the Agricultural Training Institute-CAR, BSU Compound, La Trinidad, Benguet.

Said FMRs aim to entice Abra local farmers to improve their agricultural activities by making transportation of their produce to the commercial center easier.

Two FMR Projects in Malibcong, Abra, and one in Sallapadan, Abra totaling P62 million, are now completed to serve farmers.

The projects are part of the Bayanihan to Recover as One act or Bayahihan II.

The turn-over ceremony was led by DA Undersecretary and Chief of Staff Leocadio Sebastian, accompanied by Assistant Secretary for Strategic Communications Noel O. Reyes.

DA-RFO-CAR Technical Director for Operations Danilo P. Daguio, Technical Director for Operations Jennilyn M. Dawayan, and OPAPP Director Susana Guadalupe H. Marciada were also present during the said ceremony.

Usec Sebastian, in his message, said farm-to-market road projects are crucial in advancing agriculture in the country.

“FMRs are very important. This should be one of our priorities. If the roads are improved, easier transportation of commodities will follow,” the Undersecretary stressed.

Meanwhile, Engr. Demetrio B. Baluga, Municipal Engineer of Malibcong, Abra expressed his gratitude to DA and committed to maintaining these roads.

"We’ll remember DA for making this dream come true, especially to our elders who have been hoping for accessible roads for a long time," he said.

He added that the roads will be of great help to Abra farmers. He said farmers can now transport their products without having to walk for hours before reaching the markets.
