Tabuk City, Kalinga – It is time for Kalinga fisherfolks in the province to take advantage of the programs of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources with over 700 million available amount for loans.

Kalinga Provincial Officer Joyce Ducyogen during an interview on Wednesday relayed that the agency is now accepting applicants for their Survival and Recovery Aid (SURE-Aid) Program.

The province, according to her, is provided with a quota of 300 applicants. Under the program, a fisherfolk could avail a P25,000.00 loan assistance. Total project cost when computed would amount to P7,500,000.00.

The loan, as shared by her, is payable in 10 years, no collateral and with zero interest rate.

According to Ducyogen, fisherfolks include fish processors, fish dealers, fish catchers and fishpond owners.

In order to qualify, a fisherfolk must be registered to Fisherfolk Registration System or the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture, a non- 4Ps (Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program) recipient, marginal or low-income fisherfolk and must not have availed loan assistance from the Department of Agriculture as this is also offered to farmers in the province.

“Nakicoordinate kamin diay DA tapnun han nga maulit nga maikkan dagidiay farmers nga at the same time fisherfolks metlang,” the BFAR officer told.

“Ien-encourage ko ti fisherfolks nga ag-avail kasi tsansa da daytuy, awan ti interest na but you have to pay met laeng ah at least every year man lang, magbigay kayo ng konti-konti.” she said.

Fisherfolks are also advised by Ducyogen to utilize said assistance through investment in any livelihood venture which is related to fishery.
