P1.2M corn husk shellers granted to 7 Cordillera farmers org



Tabuk City, Philippines – The granting of agriculture machinery by the Department of Agriculture through its various offices continue in the region with the recent awarding of P1.2 million worth corn husk shellers to 7 farmers’ organization in Ifugao, Kalinga, and Mt. Province, through its Regional Agricultural Engineering Department (RAED).


Pieces of machinery previously provided were given by DA- Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHILMECH) through its Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF)-Mechanization Program.


The agricultural machinery distributed last week, which the agency said is under the OneDa Reform Agenda strategy—farm mechanization and infrastructure investments will help its farmer-beneficiaries reduce harvest losses and production costs.

These are machines used by farmers in separating corn kernels from their cob, in which eventually, corn kernels will be marketed and will be used to produce livestock and poultry feeds.


Farmers’ org who benefited were Mallig Farmers Association, Agpohan and Badduat Indigenous Farmers Association, Pulaan-Magaad Farmers Organization Jacmal Evergreen Farmers and Fishersfolks Association, Lower Awayan Farmers and Fishersfolks Association, Lattang Gardeners and Farmers Association, and Ebalangao Makilo Farmers Association Inc.


They received the pieces of machinery in the DA-CAR Research Outreach Stations (ROS) in Rizal, Kalinga and in Luna, Apayao.


Aside from these, six additional corn husker shellers will be distributed to the recipients on October 20, 2021, at ROS Rizal, Kalinga, according to Engr. Marcial Bayodao, RAED Engr. I.
