P10.8M DA livelihood assistance granted to 268 Tongrayan IPs

Tinglayan, Kalinga – The 268-member Tongrayan Indigenous Peoples (IPs) of Tinglayan now have the opportunity to establish their very own community-based enterprises, to help them cope with the financial difficulties while assuring food security in their community.


This is after they received around P10,800,100 worth of livelihood assistance from the Department of Agriculture – Cordillera through its Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) program.


Recipients are four farmers’ associations in the municipality, namely Barangay Ambato Liglig Irrigators Association (BALIGI-IA), Mallango UFI Farmer’s Organization (MUFO) Magic 78 Lower Bangad Farmers Organization (M78LBFO), and Churawon Farmers Association (CFA).

BALIGI-IA, according to SAAD-Kalinga was given 11 carabaos, 2 power tillers, 10 knapsack sprayers, grinder, 70 rolls of High-Density Poly Ethylene pipes, 70 bags of complete fertilizer, and 1,750 kilograms of peanut seeds as partial support to the Carabao and Peanut Production project awarded to them.


For MUFO, they received 813 ducks, two power tillers, 70 bags of complete fertilizer, 50 knapsack sprayers, a grinder, 140 bags of both layer and grower feeds, and 1,750 kilograms of peanut seeds. Said inputs will help them in their accorded livelihood, Fruit Trees and Duck Production project.


Magic 78 Lower Bangad Farmers Organization (M78LBFO) and Churawon Farmers Association (CFA), on the other hand, were granted Integrated Banana, Pineapple, and Poultry Production as well as Fruit Trees and Duck Production projects.

Aside from agricultural inputs, members of said associations also underwent training to prepare them in properly managing their livelihood and to strengthen their association.


In a statement, SAAD Operations Officer Balag-ey Claver challenged the beneficiaries to ensure the sustainability and proper management of their projects now that the agency has turned-over the responsibility to them.

“We are not just here to turn over these projects, but it is also your responsibility to receive it. Take them into your hearts ta kayat mi a tumulong a tulungan yu ti bagbagi yu. Sapay kuma ta isaad mi, mangamung kayun,” Claver said.


Also present during the turn-over were SAAD assistant Operations Officer Daisy Yogyog, Agricultural Program Coordinating Officer (APCO) Bentres Goyo, Albert Gayyaman from the Office of the Congressman, Jhun Puday from the Office of the Governor, Municipal Council Rommel Abuli, OIC-Municipal Agriculturist Hubert Patang-I, and SAAD Focal Person Johnny Chang-it.
