Tinglayan, Kalinga – Police operatives in Kalinga burned around P157 million worth of marijuana this week. Said marijuana eradication is one of the biggest operations done in the province in a week.

The Kalinga Provincial Police reports that around P62,120,000 worth of fully grown marijuana plants were burned during the simultaneous marijuana eradication conducted in Barangay Loccong and Butbut Proper on August 3 and 4.

Additionally, around P25,000,000 fully grown marijuana plants were destroyed in another plantation in Barangay Loccong on August 4 and 5. This is apart from the 420 kilograms of dried marijuana leaves placed in sacks amounting to P70,400,000 also discovered on-site.

Upon discovery of the dried leaves, the police conducted a stakeout at the plantation site for the possible arrest of cultivators, but nobody arrived.

Kalinga Police Provincial Director, Police Colonel Davy Vicente Limmong said that marijuana eradication is a regular activity in Kalinga, adding that as so long as there are plantations discovered, the police will destroy said illegal weeds.

“Kuna mi nu naibus, kuna mi nu awanen idi. [Ngem] nu maminsan nu mapan ka idiay, mabulaga ka na lang, [adda] newly planted and dadakkelen dagiay dadduma, almost ready to harvest met lang,” he narrated.

As for the transport of marijuana bricks, Limmong said that police operations are continuously intercepting individuals who are planning to sell, buy, and ferry marijuana. Just this August 5, the province seized six pieces of suspected marijuana bricks which allegedly were supposed to be brought to Cagayan.

The bricks amounting to P720,000 were discovered by the police abandoned at the side of the road in Sitio Spring, Liwan West.
