P160M projects allotted to 8 CTG-cleared Cordi barangays

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Eight barangays in the region declared free from the influence of communist-terrorist groups (CTG) were allotted P160 million grant for the implementation of around 24 projects as incentive.


Identified as beneficiaries include the Barangays of Bayabas, Buanao, Dulao, Duldulao, Ud-udiao in Malibcong and Barangay Naguilian in Salapadan in the province of Abra, Barangay Babalag East in Rizal, Kalong, and Barangay Tamboan in Besao, Mt. Province.

The funding from the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) through its Support to Barangay Development Program (BDP) will be for the construction of nine farm-to-market roads, three school buildings, eight water and sanitation system, three barangay health stations, and one agricultural, livelihood training project.


In a press release, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) - Cordillera said each barangay will be receiving P 20 million funding for aforementioned projects.

Reports from the National Security Adviser revealed that the projects will be be rolled out on March 15 once ordered by the President, since the Department of Budget and Management has already issued the circular for the release of said funds with the needed documents submitted by the DILG.


OIC-Regional Director Araceli San Jose said that the SBD Program is an initiative of the current administration to alleviate poverty and promote development in the context of addressing the root causes of insurgency under the NTF-ELCAC.

San Jose further said that this is to entice the people to engage in economic activities to lessen the opportunity for the CTG who are using poverty as an alibi to recruit while providing the communities access holistic development projects.


For the release of NTF-ELCAC’s Local Government Support Fund-Support to the Barangay Development Program (LGSF-SBDP), guidelines are provided with the previously issued Local Budget Circular No. 135 by Budget Secretary Wendel Avisado.


A total of 822 barangays across the country is expected to benefit from said P20 million government aid.
