Lubuagan, Kalinga – The newly constructed waterworks system in Lubuagan is expected to supply clean water to four barangays in the municipality by the end of the second quarter this 2022.

A total of P17 million funding was allotted for the project.

According to Lubuagan Municipal Engineer Godwin Gayagay, the waterworks system will serve Barangays Poblacion, Dangoy, Canao, and Mabilong. These areas, he said, mainly rely on natural springs as a water source and on shallow wells during summer season.

“Dagiti tattao ditoy Lubuagan ket agkurkurang da iti danum. Nagadu nu kastoy a panagtutudo ngem nu summer talaga a matyanan dagita spring, bumassit, isu nga agre-rely kami lang kadagiti shallow well,” he said.

When the municipality was chosen as one of the recipients of the P10 million Salintubig program of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, the construction of the tank located in Barangay Mabilong and the water well drilling started in 2020.

Due to the restrictions caused by the pandemic and lockdowns, the construction of the tank and drilling were finished on December 30, 2021.

To complete the system, a P7 million assistance from the DILG was allotted for the ongoing construction of pipelines.

With these developments, Gayagay said that the waterworks system will operate by the end of second semester this year.

In her statement, Mayor Charisma Ann Dickpus mentioned that among the priorities of her administration is the construction of the waterworks system in Lubuagan. She expressed gratitude to the DILG for funding the project.

She added that they chose to design the tank into a clay pot instead of its usual shape.

“Originally iti design na dayta diay lang simple a tangke. Kayat tayo met kuma nga agbalin a tourism attraction isu nga pinadesign tayo a banga,” she explained.

The mayor is looking for more fund sources from outside for the construction of more waterworks system in Lubuagan so that the people will no longer have to worry about water supply especially during summer.
