Bauko, Mt. Province - Residents of Upper Bauko, Mt. Province are now enjoying  smoother travel and faster transport of their agricultural produce with the recent improvement of the 651-meter part of the Balicanao-Am-am Provincial Road.

The road connects Sitio Balicanao and Sitio Am-am in Barangay Sadsadan, Bauko to nearby areas. Most residents are farmers; thus, the project is a great aid to their work and way of life, especially in bringing their crops to the market.

Making the improvement of the road possible is the P25 million in funds from the Office of the Provincial Adviser for Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU), under its Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA) program.

The provincial government, led by Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr., with help from Planning Officer Judith Nguslab, strictly implemented and monitored the project until it was completed.

Along with concreting and making the road wider, the project added proper drainage systems. These upgrades make roads safer and longer-lasting, especially during heavy rains.

The remaining part of the road that was not included in the phase 1 upgrade is under planning for phase 2.

In his Facebook post on June 2, Governor Lacwasan thanked the OPAPRU and its secretary, Carlito Galvez Jr., for their continued support of the PLGU’s various infrastructure projects.

He also mentioned other OPAPRU-funded projects in the province for 2025.  These include the improvement of Tamboan-Besao-Abra Provincial Road, funded with P45 million; the development of the Mountain Province Peace and Development Center, with P15 million; and the fencing of Mainit National High School, with P7 million.

A program of the national government, PAMANA brings peace and development to conflict-affected and isolated communities across the country through building infrastructure and improving service delivery.
