Tabuk City, Kalinga - After verifying tipped information, Kalinga police recovered marijuana bricks underneath the historic Canao Bridge on Monday, January 15.

The police were earlier informed about a backpack containing marijuana bricks that was dumped at said location.

Based on the relayed information, the backpacks thrown in the area were accompanied by sacks of garbage.

When the police went there to confirm the information’s veracity, they stumbled upon two sacks of marijuana bricks and stalks piled with another sack of garbage.

The contrabands include 30 marijuana bricks weighing 30 kilograms, with a market value of P3.6 million.

Inventory and markings of the illegal drugs were later made, witnessed by a DOJ representative and two barangay councilors of Bulanao, Tabuk City.

Pieces of evidence were ferried to the Kalinga Forensic Unit for proper disposition.

In a statement made by PCol Freddie Lazona, Acting Provincial Director of Kalinga Police Provincial Office, he said the suspects might have chosen to abandon the illicit drugs due to the presence of police checkpoints in the area.

“The recovery of these marijuana bricks prevented their transport to other places and may also prevent the destruction of the lives of those who could have been buyers of the illegal drugs,” he went on to say.
