P3.9M granted to 39 Centenarians in Kalinga

Updated: May 22, 2022

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A total of 39 Centenarians in the Province of Kalinga received P100,000 cash incentives each or P3.9 Million since the implementation of Republic Act No. 10868 or the Centenarians Act in 2017.

This is according to the report of the Field Office of Department of Social Welfare and Development – Cordillera.

The department explained the Centenarian Act provides that all Filipinos, who reached 100 years old and above, whether residing in the Philippines or abroad shall be honored with a Letter of Felicitation from the President of the Philippines congratulating the celebrator for his or her longevity and a Centenarian gift in the amount of P100,000.

“Our centenarians have one way or another contributed to nation-building. The cash incentive is just a small thing to show our gratitude to them compared to the love, respect, and care their family can give them. Let us show them all the love we can and treasure the lessons we learned from them,” Regional Director, Arnel B. Garcia said.

In Kalinga, two of its centenarians received their cash gifts during the first quarter of 2022.

Pursuant to the memorandum circular of DSWD, the centenarians were verified by the LSWDO or the Head of Office for Senior Citizens Affairs in coordination with Civil Society Organizations.

The verification process requires the centenarians to present documents proving their age. These may include birth certificate or Philippine passport

If the primary documents are not available, they may provide Senior Citizen’s Identification Card issued by OSCA or any Philippine government-issued identification cards showing Filipino citizenship and year of birth.

Also given incentives were 107 centenarians from Benguet, 74 from Abra, 70 from Mt. Province, 50 from Ifugao, and 19 from Apayao.

The department commits its continued recognition to the centenarians.
