Tabuk City, Kalinga - Around P5,200,000 worth of suspected marijuana bricks hidden inside two sacks of banana were discovered in Mabalacat, Pampanga this September 24, 2021. Authorities believed that the contraband came from Tabuk City.

Mabalacat City Police Station Chief, Police Lieutenant Colonel Soledad Elefanio narrated during an interview with Central Luzon TV 36 that the alleged marijuana bricks were accidentally discovered by the staff of Victory Liner after a piece of brick slipped out from the sack.

“It so happened po na natanggal po ‘yung tali daw sabi nung mga taga victory, eh nalaglag po isang brick at tsaka ‘yung mga saging po,” she said, adding that the staff immediately called the police to report what they found.

When the police confirmed that there were marijuana bricks placed inside the two sacks of banana, they waited for the consignee to claim it.

The operation then led to the arrest of 3 individuals and confiscation of 44 pieces of suspected dried marijuana bricks amounting to P5.2 million.

Through the receipt, it was identified that the two sacks came from Tabuk.

Side of the suspects

During the live coverage of Central Luzon TV 36, one of the three suspects said he is a tricycle driver, and it just happened that the other suspects called his attention in order to ferry the two sacks towards their destination and that he was not aware of what the contents of the sacks were.

The other two younger suspects also said they were not aware they were claiming marijuana since they were only doing a favor for a friend who asked them to pick the two sacks of banana in exchange for P300.

PLTCOL Elefanio said they will be investigating the case and the involvement of the suspects.
