Besao, Mountain Province –The P98.54 million-worth Besao-Nacawang and Tadian Mabalite farm-to-market-road sub-project - Segment 1 is set to be completed soon, while segment 2 is now up for bidding.

In a press release, Department of Agriculture-Philippine Rural Development Project’s (DA-PRDP) Rural Infrastructure Engineer Genesis Deloeg said that segment 1 of the project, which is about 8.938 kilometers, has already reached 98 percent physical accomplishment prior to the on-site inspection last March 11.

During the recent inspection, DA-PDRP recommended the need for the road shoulders in some areas to be reshaped and compacted to repair the damages brought by rains and erosion. Necessary repairs along the road pavement are also needed to fast track the completion of the project.

Social and Environmental Safeguards (SES) Officer Rigi May B. Copatan also reminded the contractors to complete the clearing of boulders along the roads and waterways after completion of the FMR prior to its turn-over to the local government.

The infrastructure would serve the 33,000 residents in said municipality including the nearby towns.

Said DA-PRDP road project was designed to support the Mountain Province Arabica Coffee Enterprise at Barangay Kin-iway in Besao and its satellite coffee-buying station situated at Poblacion Tadian, a project implemented under the same agency.

Aside from that, said project is also seen to facilitate the safe and fast delivery of agricultural products from the towns of Tadian and Besao as well as the other municipalities to the commercial areas.

The FMR project is funded by the World Bank with counterparts from the national government through the Department of Agriculture, and the provincial local government of Mountain Province.

For the second segment of the FMR, bid evaluation and post qualification of bidders is underway.
