Tinglayan, Kalinga – Mayor Sacrament Gumilab on Saturday, July 9 stressed that their participation in the gong relay during the celebration of the 35th Cordillera signifies their strong support to the pursuit of Cordilleran Autonomy.

The annual Unity Gong Relay, where the local government units participated in, is the ceremonial bringing of the symbolic gong to the municipalities and cities in the region.

With the gong relay, local chief executives were given the honor to beat the gong – a call for Cordillerans to take action and celebrate the people’s camaraderie and oneness.

In his speech, Mayor Gumilab expressed his response to the region’s call for action and said that Tinglayan Municipality fully supports the goal of achieving the region’s dream for autonomy.

“Our participation as one municipality in this gong relay manifests our solidarity with the people of cordillera in the pursuit of our dream. We pledge to this day that Tinglayan is 100 percent supportive and committed for our dream for one Cordillera,” Gumilab said.

Gumilab recounted that the pursuit of a regional autonomy was also the quest of Cordilleran forefathers. Some of them are already gone but still, ‘the pursuit for regional autonomy continues’.

Meantime, after said ceremony, Mayor Gumilab alongside provincial and municipal officials escorted and turned over the symbolic gong to the local government unit of Pasil.

The Gong relay will conclude this July 12 at the Tabuk City Hall.
