Writer: Leonora Lo-oyLeonora Lo-oy

Baguio City, Philippines – Tourists and visitors can now take a stroll inside the Philippine Military Academy, two years after it shut its doors from outsiders due to the threat of Covid-19.

The opening of PMA’s doors to a maximum of 300 guests per day is effective today, March 24, the academy announced on their official Facebook page.

As stated by the academy, they decided to open their gate to tourists and cadets’ visitors as long as Baguio City remains at Alert Level 1 and after a series of studies and meetings done by the PMA Covid-19 Prevention and Action Group.

This move aims to let the public see the different tourist destinations inside PMA as well as to allow them to appreciate the school’s history and its role in producing future military officers.

Allowing visitors and the cadets’ loved ones to get inside the academy was also seen as a way to boost the morale and the welfare of these cadets as they are the positive force that could motivate these future AFP officers in meeting the PMA Education and Training standards.

Regular guests and cadets’ loved ones may schedule their visit to the Philippine Military Academy at https://bisita.pma.edu.ph.

Guidelines for regular tourists

According to the PMA, regular tourists are allowed to enter the school from 8:30 – 11:00 AM from Mondays to Fridays and 8:30 AM to 12:00PM on Saturdays and Sundays.

While for PMA alumni, they shall be allowed to stay until 3:00 PM and accompany their guests.

In entering the academy, fully vaccinated people shall be required to show their vaccination ID or certificate, while the unvaccinated are mandated to present a negative RT-PCR test taken within 72 hours prior entry.

Children below 12 years old may be allowed to enter without test result provided that they are accompanied by adults.

Meantime, these visitors are unauthorized to go to residential areas, PMA administrative buildings, and other restricted areas and that they cannot interact with the cadets, including taking photos with them.

Regular tourists shall abide by the camp’s regulations and health protocols.

Cadets’ Visitors

As for the cadets’ visitors, which include parents, relatives, and foster parents, they may engage with them on designated venues and schedule in coordination with the Tactics Group.

Entering the academy shall require fully vaccinated cadets’ visitors to present negative antigen test result taken within 12 hours or a negative RT-PCR taken within 72 hours prior entry for those who are not fully vaccinated.

While for children below 12 years old, they may be allowed entry without any test result as long as they are with adults.

‘Careless Day’

The Philippine Military Academy also reminds visitors that Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, are ‘Careless Day’ at the academy. This means that tourists and visitors will have to park their cars in designated areas inside PMA and that they will have to walk or ride a bicycle while strolling the academy.

Meanwhile, guests who are from outside Baguio shall follow the guidelines promulgated by the City of Baguio such as registering at Baguio Visita website, https://visita.baguio.gov.ph and they have to pass through the triage areas.
