Pinukpuk, Kalinga―Members of the Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina- Malagnat (KALIPI) train on Banana vinegar processing on March 8 and 26 at Barangay Malagnat, Pinukpuk through the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in partnership with the Kalinga State University (KSU) and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Kalinga.

The 2-day skills training is one of the interventions under the local grants-in-aid (LGIA) community based project in coordination with Pinukpuk local government unit entitled, “Science and Technology Intervention on Community Based Project on Banana Processing.”

This is also part of the Science for the People Caravan celebration of the DOST Regional office through the Provincial Science and Technology Center-Kalinga.

Day 1 of the training is focused on vinegar fermentation while Day 2 is a hands-on training on the use of vinegar acetator, a technology developed through the Department of Science and Technology-Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST-ITDI).

Alma Busacay, owner of Mom-is food products, a DOST-CAR SETUPreneur and adaptor of DOST-ITDI’s vinegar acetator, generously shared her knowledge not only on vinegar processing but also provided tips for the participants on how to sustain the project.

Dr. Bernadette Aggabao, Melanie Manuel, and Marie Bravo of KSU did the testing of acidity through their laboratory materials and chemicals that they brought during the training.

Municipal S&T Coordinator Marilou Iddoba also graced the event representing Mayor Irving Dasayon, who expressed his support to the project.

Said training is a follow through of the free acidity testing for vinegar processors in Kalinga last December, 2020.
