Updated: Oct 13, 2022

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A day before the 2022 elections, the Philippine National Police Kalinga told the public to immediately report to their office any election-related violence for faster police response.

During an interview with Kalinga Police Provincial Director, Police Colonel Peter Tagtag Jr., he said that while the law enforcers in the province are fully prepared for the casting of votes tomorrow, they need the immediate reporting of incidents so they could timely act on them.

“What we need now is the timely report of incidents kasi definitely ket, iti ibagbagak nga kankanayun, iti managdakdakes haan nga ag-commit isuna[iti crime] in front of police officers. So, we need the immediate reporting of incidents from the community,” he explained.

Meantime, in response to the incident that transpired at the Headquarters of re-electionist, Congressman Allen Jesse Mangaoang on May 6 in Babalag West, Rizal, Tagtag informed that 7 suspects have already been charged with robbery with intimidation while the police are still looking for three more people involved.

The incident at Mangaoang’s headquarters happened around 10:00 PM wherein 3 of his staff were busy preparing appointment papers for their poll watchers when several men stopped in front of the camp and fired their firearms before entering the area.

The suspects allegedly took cut coupons which they thought were cash including other folders, papers, and the shoulder bag of one of the 3 staff before kicking and overturning the tables and chairs.

The armed men left the area towards the north direction. However, 7 of them who was said to be onboard a blue dump truck, one of the vehicles the suspects used were flagged down at a checkpoint set-up at Nambaran Junction in Tabuk City.

“Based doon sa revelation ng mga witnesses sa headquarters ni congressman, mga witnesses doon, may mga around 10. Na-identify yung 10 kaya lang yung 7 ang na-arrest. Yung iba kasi at large kaya hinahanap natin,” he said.

As recalled, all the municipalities and the city in Kalinga were placed under red or ‘areas of grave concern’ except for Tanudan which was categorized as orange.
