Updated: Jul 12, 2021

Tinglayan, Kalinga — While in the middle of a marijuana eradication on July 9 in Barangay Loccong, members of the Kalinga police were fired at by still unknown perpetrators.

Kalinga Police Provincial Director, Police Colonel Davy Vicente Limmong said that the police, while on operation, were alerted after successive gunfires were directed towards the operatives.

He said that at first, the police thought that the gunfires came from someone hunting in the other mountain, but then it didn’t stop; then they noticed that somebody was actually shooting at them.

“Idi damo kuna da nu kasla a nagputok lang a nag-anup idiay sabali a bantay. Ngem idi agsasaruno ket mahalata da met a kasla adda tumam-tama idiay ayan da. So ditoy da a naalarma,” he narrated.

He added that the police immediately searched the area and confirmed that the bullets were fired from approximately 400 meter air distance and the suspects were in the other mountain.

Fortunately, the shooting didn’t last long and nobody was hurt from the operating personnel.

Meantime, during the said operation, two marijuana plantation sites were destroyed and around P22,000,000 worth of fully grown marijuana plants were uprooted.

Apart from this, P6,000,000 worth of harvested marijuana stalks were also discovered. The illegal weeds were burned on-site and no cultivator was arrested.
