Rizal, Cagayan - Tension arose at a checkpoint in Rizal, Cagayan, in the evening of September 13, when a police officer opened fire at his colleagues, killing one and wounding another.

According to a local media outlet, police reported that it was around 10:00 p.m. on said date when the suspect, alias “Pedring,” a police officer from Solana, arrived at the FVP checkpoint in Barangay Gaddangao.

Instead of simply reporting for duty, it was said that Perding suddenly drew his service firearm and pointed it at a fellow officer.

Alarmed by the unexpected outburst, two other policemen hidden under the names “Jey” and “Simon” stepped in and tried to calm down their colleague. However, before their words could ease the tension, Perding fired at them.

Jey and Simon both suffered gunshot wounds and were quickly rushed to Bulagao District Hospital, but Simon was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Fortunately, Jey survived the incident and was later transferred to the ACE Medical Center for further treatment.

Meanwhile, Pedring did not get far as he was immediately caught. He is now in the custody of Rizal Police Station while charges are being prepared against him.

Further investigations are being done to determine the reason behind the fatal shooting.
