Tabuk City, Kalinga – Aiming to bring back peace between the Butbut tribe of Tinglayan and the Betwagan of Sadanga, Governor Ferdinand Tubban supported the suggestion to create a task force to handle and resolve the long-standing boundary dispute between the two.

This was raised during the Kalinga Provincial Peace and Order Council 2nd quarter meeting on June 11 at the Provincial Capitol.

Tubban said that the creation of a task force should be undertaken while waiting for the response of the Regional Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee- CAR to the resolution submitted by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Kalinga declining the proposed Macli-ing boundary as a boundary for Butbut and Betwagan.

The bodong between the two tribes was severed in February 2020 because of the longstanding boundary dispute, and just this May 30, another life was lost due to said conflict.

Recent casualty

Kalinga Police Provincial Office Director PCol Davy Vicente Limmong said that a member of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU), who is the team leader of the CAFGU detachment based just above Barangay Bugnay, Tinglayan, was the recent casualty of said dispute.

Limmong narrated that on May 30, a gunfire erupted in the morning for approximately 5 minutes at the disputed boundary. Then in the afternoon in another area near the CAFGU detachment, another successive gunfire happened.

To clear out the area, the victim and his team then decided to go and patrol the area where they heard the gunfire. The victim was leading the way, but was shot six times on their way.

Investigation on the case is still on-going.
