'Rape cases in region CAR dropped 19.2% in May-June 2023' - PRO-Cor

Baguio City, Philippines - Police in Cordillera logged lower rape cases for the second quarter of 2023.

Latest data from Police Regional Office – Cordillera showed 52 rape cases were reported and investigated from January to March dropping to 42 from April to June.

The province of Benguet has the highest number of complaints with 12 cases in the first quarter, and another 12 in the following quarter.

The highest drop in said cases was logged in Mt. Province with six in the first quarter down to two in the second quarter.

Meanwhile, 13 cases were recorded in Kalinga, 11 each in Abra and Ifugao, and 10 each in Apayao and Baguio City for the first quarter.

The police in the region, however, expressed concern about the ‘troubling’ ages of the youngest victims – 4 years old from January to March and 6 years old from April to June.

Parents are cautioned to keep an eye on their children for them not to suffer from such brutality.

As for the sexual offenders, the youngest so far was 15 years old.

According to police, the suspects were ‘acquaintances’ of the victims, some of which were victims’ schoolmates, brothers-in-law, stepfathers, or cousins.

Ten of the offenders were under the influence of alcohol when they allegedly committed the crime.
