Lubuagan, Kalinga – The ‘Delta’ variant, which is known to be more contagious than any other COVID-19 variants, is brewing tension in the province. With this, Mayor Charisma Ann Dickpus of Lubuagan told her constituents to remain cautious and make preparations.

Since the neighbour-province Apayao had its first case recently, Dickpus reiterated that instead of being weakened by fear, the people should accept the new normal and should live through it. “We do not want to go back to square one when COVID-19 fuelled fear and stigma. It is better to expect the unexpected. That is why a proactive and targeted preparation for the possible spread of any variants is vital,” Dickpus said.

By this, Dickpus means people should not wait for the problem and react, but rather imagine the worst-case scenario and prepare. With targeting, she said families should know which family member is more vulnerable, how much food, medicine, or other necessities they would need for a month or more in case a lockdown becomes inevitable.

Meantime, as to the offices of the LGU, with the data available, they readied contingency plans and support mechanisms if the frontliners get overwhelmed.

Additionally, for the more effective fight to contain the virus, she urged the people of Lubuagan and the Local Government Unit (LGU) to be united and cooperative. “Saan da kuma ma-um-uma a mang-practice latta kadagiti health protocols, saan met a narigat nga aramiden dagita,” the mayor stressed. Lubuagan Municipal Health Officer Dr. Caroline Agyao, meanwhile, said that the LGU is on preparing for the possible entry of Delta into the municipality.

Doctor Agyao informed that their Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams will monitor asymptomatic patients.

The undertaking of the COVID-19 vaccinations, especially to A2 and A3 in the municipality, is still ongoing.
