PWD Entrepreneurs in Kalinga get free upskills training program from DTI

Tabuk City, Kalinga- In response to the request of Norlu Empowerment Training Center Inc. to have a Skills Training Program in support to its PWD entrepreneurs, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Kalinga conducted a two-day training of Bread and Pastry Making in Bulanao Norte, Tabuk City.


The participants attended the trainings for baking and cooking techniques in order to develop their existing pastries and bread business.


The training focused on preparing Banana Loaf bread, Banana Cupcake, and Carrot Cupcake with cream cheese frosting.


The said training was attended by 16 participants, consisting of 8 deaf and mute, 2 amputees, 4 potential entrepreneurs from the Center and 2 joiner-beneficiaries of Negosyo Serbisyo sa Barangay.

According to Business Councilor of Negosyo Center-Tabuk Kevin Espita Racraquin, they wanted to assist PWD micro entrepreneurs, especially those selling products along the highways with their makeshift stalls or those who just set-up a table to display their products.


These individuals, he said, were targeted as beneficiaries to help them improve and market their product.


“We commit to help them improve and enhance their social media page nga ‘Helping Hands Pastries’ idiay dan tu nga i-post, tapnu napartak da nga makalako ken nalaka ag- order (ti tao). Ken nu adda trade fair siguro, invite mi nga i-display da dagiti products da ti booth and nu adda man kayat da nga recipe nga masurwan, we can help them,” Racraquin added.


Aside from baking, other topics related to business management, particularly Product Costing and Pricing, Marketing Management, Branding, Food Photography, Food Safety and Sanitation, and Operations Management, were also discussed on September 31 to October 1, 2021.


DTI also said they will help the beneficiaries to improve their packaging, labelling and marketing.

DTI-Kalinga together with Maslepducafe.ph, and the resource persons; Chef Tiffany Lavarez and Mr. Lawrence Lerios Sejera, through the Capacity Building Program of DTI, conduct trainings such as managerial or technical for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).


What is Norlu Empowerment Training Center Inc?


Norlu Empowerment Training Centre is a local Non Government Organization that supports a livelihood project named as “Happy Hands Pastries”. It is supported by a Japanese Non Government Organization known as) Empowerment Okinawa.


The Japanese NGO donated the tools, equipments and the training budget for the Happy Hands Pastries.


As stated on its social media account “Happy Hands Pastries”, the center is created as a Baking Workshop for Persons with Disabilities, to support and at least provide a source of income for them.
