Quezon, Isabela Councilor dies in three-car collision on Christmas Eve

Updated: Dec 27, 2022

Quezon, Isabela – A member of the municipal council of Quezon, Isabela died while six others were injured in a three-car collision involving a Mitsubishi Estrada and two Toyota Fortuners at the national road in Barangay Abut, Quezon, Isabela this Christmas Eve.

Instead of celebrating the holidays, the family of the late Councilor Candidu Andumang are mourning with his passing. He was 70 years old and a resident of the same village.

Meantime, the driver of the Toyota Fortuner identified by authorities as Quezon Mayor Jimmy Gamazon, 46, and his wife Mercy Gamazon, 44, sustained injuries. Both are residents of Barangay Arellano, Quezon, Isabela.

Also injured were the driver of the other Toyota Fortuner – Meireece Ferrer, 30, from Sotero Nuesa, Roxas, Isabela, and the student passengers – Abegail Ronquillo, 24; Romano Ronquillo, 22; and Kevin Ronquillo, 32, all from Bantug, Roxas.

The two Toyota Fortuners were both traversing said road towards the south direction when the wobbling oncoming Mitsubishi Estrada crashed first into the vehicle driven by the mayor and then into the other Toyota Fortuner, relayed Quezon Municipal Police Station.

With the impact, the councilor’s car overturned, causing him to sustain severe injuries, leading to his immediate death.

Accordingly, a test administered to measure alcohol content from the victim yielded a positive result.

The area where the incident happened is considered an accident-prone place as the road which used to be a four-lane highway will be made into a two-lane road. This might be another cause of the unfortunate accident, says the investigator.

Further investigation is ongoing.
