Instead of enjoying his retirement, Ret. PCapt. Alexander Malasi whose heart is deeply rooted to serving the people expressed his intent to run as Municipal Vice Mayor of Tinglayan for the May 2025 polls, saying he is not done being an instrument to progress and helping his ‘kailyans’.

“Agtarayak a kas bise iti Muncipalidad ti Tinglayan ta dagiay inar-aramid tayo nga mayat idi aktibo tayo nga pulis ket kayat ko pay kuma nga itul-tuloy. Isu nga dayta iti maysa rason tapnu kayat ko pay nga pagserbiyan iti umili ditoy Tinglayan,” he said.

Malasi who spent 29 years as a police officer until he retired in 2023 summarized his platform into six aspects: Makatao Governance; Alagang Kalusugan; Ligtas na Pamayanan; Agrikultura, Turismo at Kabuhayan; Serbisyong Edukasyon; and Inisyatibong Makakalikasan, which promises better services to the people of Tinglayan.

For the ‘Makatao Governance’, the retired cop wants to promote inclusive leadership that listens to the needs of every sector in Tinglayan and to prioritize transparency, accountability, and public consultations. His ‘Alagang Kalusugan’ aims to improve access to basic healthcare services especially in remote barangays and to advocate for programs on mental health.

Being a police officer for almost three decades, Malasi wishes to push for Ligtas na Pamayanan which focuses on peace and order through strong coordination with the barangays, the different tribes, and the law enforcers. For the ‘Agrikultura, Turismo at Kabuhayan’, the Vice Mayor-aspirant wants to extend support to the local farmers by providing them access to training, tools, and markets and he also wants to support tourism and livelihood programs which will pave way to the creation of jobs to the people.

Education also takes part of Malasi’s platform through his ‘Serbisyong Edukasyon,’ which pushes for better assistance to teachers and students such as scholarships, school improvements, and provision of digital tools.

Lastly, the retired police officer takes into account environment preservation under his ‘Inisyatibong Makakalikasan’ which aims to champion environmental protection initiatives like tree planting, waste segregation, and clean-up drives.

What can he guarantee to iTinglayans?

Being a cop for almost three decades brought Malasi extensive lessons, but the main quality he could take with him in his bid as Municipal Vice Mayor is the discipline. This, he said, is what he could carry with him at the Sangguniang Bayan should he be given a chance to take the position.

“Dakkel iti maitulong ti experience ko nga kas retired police officer nu adda gasat tayo nga agtugaw kase disciplined. Maysa dayta nga number one ta masapol nga sika nga kas bilang man makatugawak nga vice mayor, kasapulan launay ti disiplina. Ta gamin nu awan disiplina ti agtugaw a kas vice mayor ket it goes, maapektaran amin ti adda ti opisinan ti vice ken it LGU,” he said.
