Rockfall at Mt. Data Cliff kills 17-yr.-old student

Mt. Province, Philippines – A 17-year-old student died after she was hit by a falling rock at Mount Data Cliff road, Monamon Sur, Bauko, Mt. Province around 5:30 PM on Friday, Jan. 06, 2023.

On board a motorcycle, the victim and her 16-year-old brother were on their way home to Sitio Sumey-ang, Sadsadan from Mt. Data when a rockfall suddenly hit them while traversing the road, reported Mt. Province police.


The rock first hit the head of victim before hitting the left foot of her brother.


The siblings were brought to Luis Hora Memorial Regional Hospital for medical attention but the older was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Despite wearing a helmet, the victim Amanda Loyola Manocay, a Grade 11 student, suffered traumatic brain injury that caused her death, while her brother Rafael Loyola Manocay, a Grade 10 student, sustained multiple physical injuries.


Meantime, motorists are advised to take the alternative route via Sadsadan - Balicanao - Salin - Sinto road as the Mt. Data Cliff in Bauko was temporarily closed.
