Sagada lifts suspension of caving activities except for Ballangagan Cave

Sagada, Mt. Province – Tourists can still enjoy the picturesque views and the adventure of caving activities in Sagada as an advisory suspending the most frequented activities in the locality was lifted Tuesday, August 1 by its local government.


The supposed suspension of caving activities issued on July 28 is pursuant to the provisions of Section 5 of the Sagada Revised Tourism Code of 2022 on ‘closure of sites’.


According to the locality’s tourism office, temporary closures of some caves in Sagada happen every year ‘to allow the rejuvenation of the caves and in consideration of current weather situations’.

The decision to postpone such activity was also affected by the recent onslaught of Super Typhoon, of which, the municipality was not spared of its wrath.


However, the month-long closure of Balangagan Cave, one of the most known caves in the area, will still take effect starting Tuesday, August 1.


The majestic Sumaguing Cave, meantime, is scheduled for a temporary closure next month.


Other tourism activities in Sagada are allowed but travelers are advised to be extra cautious during tours to avoid accidents.


Along with caves, the famous Pongas Falls which can be reached by trekking – going past abundant rice terraces, rivers, and canyons on the mountainside, the Marlboro Blue Soil and Ampacao Mountain are among tourist spots visitors should not missed while in the area.


These are a few of the area's most well-known attractions, along with mountain valleys, rice fields, limestone and burial caves, waterfalls, and cliffs that overlook a sea of clouds.


To recall, following the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, it was only last year that the municipality fully-opened its tourism sites for visit.
