Santa Marcela, Apayao underscores healthy diet in its fight against malnutrition

Santa Marcela, Apayao - With processed foods that lack nutrients being made available in many parts of the town, Mayor Evelyn B. Martinez reminded the participants during the Nutrition Month Celebration conducted by the municipality of the importance of eating healthy food, considering the report on cases of malnutrition.


‘’Mangan tayo kadagiti nasustansya nga makmakan tapno nasalun-at tayo a kanayun ken maikaiwas tayo iti saksakit,” the mayor said encouraging the audience to consistently observe healthy diet, adding its positive impact on work.

This year’s Nutrition Month celebration with its theme, ‘’Food and Nutrition Security, Maging Priority! Sapat na Pagkain Karapatan Natin,‘’ delved into reminding consumers of vital eating practices and choices. Organized by the Municipal Health Office, led by Dr. Myolaine Hilario, the event took place at the EKB Memorial Sports Center.


One of the highlights of the event was the Nutri-Quiz Bee, where participants showcased their knowledge on healthy eating. The Nutri-Cooking Contest was also simultaneously held. During this activity, participants prepared delicious and nutritious meals.


Further, a nutri-talk was provided by Rejoy Lomiwes, underlining simple tips on staying healthy, choosing the right foods, and developing good eating habits. She said that discipline and healthy choices lead to a better life.


Nutrition program chair committee SB Jayson M. Calban, meantime, thanked and encouraged the community to continue to support the LGU’s health and nutrition programs.


The month-long Nutrition program in Santa Marcela serves as an avenue for LGU officials, employees, and participants to value the benefits of good nutrition.
