Santa Marcela receives 10 awards during the 2025 EKB Health Awards

Santa Marcela, Apayao – The Municipal Local Government Unit of Santa Marcela, under the leadership of Mayor Evelyn Martinez, together with the town’s barangays, received 10 awards from the Apayao Provincial Health Office during the EKB Health Awards 2025 held at the Apayao State College (ASC) Luna Campus on November 26.


These recognitions were earned through the effective work and collaboration of the municipality and its barangays with various health partners and providers.


The awards received across different categories included the following:


In the Community Health Champion category, the Santa Marcela Rural Health Unit (RHU) clinched the awards for Health Promotion Unit of the Year and Top HIV Prevention and Control Advocate.


Under the Municipal Health Leadership category, the RHU also received the Dugong Bayani Award and the recognition for Top Performing LGU in Family Planning Uptake.


Moreover, the Santa Marcela District Hospital (SMDH) was honored with several notable awards.


Under the Hospital Awards (Special Recognition), the SMDH received the Turn-Around Time Excellence Award, signifying improved efficiency and productivity.


It also secured the Project BUTSY Implementer and Extension Clinic Initiative Award under the Hospital Innovation and Service category, and the Hospital Public Health Integration Award under the Hospital Excellence category.


For the Top Performing Hospital Epidemiology and Surveillance Units, SMDH placed 2nd.


Additionally, the Santa Marcela BHW Federation was awarded Top Performing Municipal BHW in the province.


Barangay San Carlos received the award for Best Barangay Anti-Rabies Program Implementer, while Barangays Imelda and Panay were nominated for the same award.


The multiple distinctions received by the municipality reflect the unified efforts of LGU health workers, local leaders, and partner agencies toward providing more inclusive and efficient health services for residents.


Mayor Martinez, along with other LGU officials, recognized the awardees and encouraged them to continue delivering accessible and quality healthcare to the community.
