Tabuk City, Kalinga – “Ti scholarship program ket saan a maikkat ken agtultuloy a programa iti CLGU nu man pay agsukat ti Mayor, Bise Mayor ken dagiti kameng iti Sangguniang Panlungsod,” assured Vice Mayor Bernard Glen Dao-as responding to fears that some scholars may lose their benefits if the incumbent officials will not win after the elections.

City Vice Mayor Dao-as clarified on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, that the scholarship program of the City government of Tabuk is a continuing program and that no one will be removed in the event that the set of officials of the city will be replaced by new officers.

“Gapu iti bileg iti daan ken ti napabaru nga ordinansa mainaig iti daytoy ti Scholarship program ket saan a maikkat ken agtultuloy a programa iti CLGU nu man pay agsukat ti Mayor, Bise Mayor ken dagiti kameng iti Sangguniang Panlungsod,” statement of the City Vice mayor reads.

The City Vice-mayor made the statement to address the fear of parents that their children’s name will be delisted from the city LGU’s scholars once the city executive will be replaced.

The City Vice-Mayor explained that the scholarship program of the CLGU started during the term of the then Mayor Camilo T. Lammawin, through an ordinance authored by Antonio Bakilan, which eventually became a regular program of the city government.

The removal of names, he said, should be based on valid reasons such as the non-compliance to scholarship requirements and policies, after being tested positive of using illegal drugs, academic deficiencies, conviction from a crime, and abandonment or the inability to report to the City Scholarship Office in a semester.

Dao-as stressed the importance of education for the youth since this is their passport for a better future, which is the main purpose of the scholarship. With this, he then encouraged the youth to do their best in their studies and should take advantage of the opportunity.

Regarding the upcoming national and local elections, he then advised the youth and the public not to allow themselves to be controlled by politicians who tend to government services and benefits for political gains and instead use their conscience in choosing their leaders.

“Saan da[kuma] nga agpa-tengngel wenno pa-kontrol kadagiti nadangkuk nga agturay ken usaren da ti adal da ken nadalus a konsensya tapnu agpili kadagiti agturay a saan a kunniber, managinbubukod ken saan a naturay unay,” he said.
