Tabuk City, Kalinga – A school dean died while over 50 others were taken to the hospital when a bus carrying mostly nursing students from Abra overturned along the Tarlac-Pangasinan - La Union Expressway early morning of July 9.

Police investigation revealed the dean and two clinical instructors of the Divine World College of Bangued were accompanying 30 nursing students for their affiliation in Manila when the incident happened.

Aside from the students, police disclosed that the vehicle was also carrying some 18 other passengers.

Accordingly, while traversing TPLEX, the bus driver lost control of the vehicle’s brake, causing the bus to crash into a road barrier and eventually overturn.

Injured or not, the passengers were all taken to the Tarlac Provincial Hospital, and for that reason, the number of injured people was not already taken into account, police said.

Among them was Ulpiatrasinia Tuzon, the dean of the School of Health Sciences at the Divine World College of Bangued.

She was rushed to the hospital with multiple injuries and was declared dead on arrival.

One of the clinical instructors reportedly sustained a fracture, while the others are being monitored for minor injuries.

As for the students, some are already in stable condition, while others are still under observation.

At present, the driver is now in police custody while Partas Transportation Company and the Tuzon family are in the middle of negotiations.
